Digital Motion X-ray (DMX) is an advanced imaging technology used primarily in the evaluation of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those related to the spine and joints. Unlike traditional static X-rays, which capture still images, DMX allows for real-time imaging of the body's movement. This can be incredibly useful for diagnosing conditions that may only appear during certain movements, such as spinal instability or joint abnormalities.
Digital Motion X-ray, also known as Dynamic X-ray or Video-fluoroscopy, is a specialized form of X-ray imaging that captures the body's movement in real time. It involves the use of a fluoroscopy machine, which continuously emits X-ray radiation while the patient moves. The images are then processed digitally, allowing for precise analysis of the movement and function of the joints and spine.
Real Time Imaging: Unlike traditional X-rays that capture a single static image, DMX captures continuous images as the patient moves. This way, we can see a dynamic view of the body's structures in motion.
Fluoroscopy Machine: The patient is positioned in front of the fluoroscopy machine, which emits a continuous X-ray beam. As the patient moves, the X-ray images are captured and displayed in real time on a monitor.
Analysis: The real-time images allow healthcare professionals to assess joint function, stability, range of motion, and any abnormalities that may be present during movement.
