Prolotherapy for Pain Relief in SCV

Prolotherapy is an injection-based treatment that is primarily used to alleviate post-injury back pain, but it is useful in treating both chronic and newly onset pain. It can help heal the spine, knees, and any weakened ligament or tendon. At Unruh Spine Centers, we recommend Prolotherapy to patients suffering from chronic pain that occurs post-injury or that is caused by overuse.

This is how prolotherapy works to accelerate healing:

• Targeting tendons or ligaments that have incompletely healed after an injury
• Increasing blood flow to the injured area
• Repairing damaged tissue
• Stimulating growth of new fibrous tissue, strengthening the weakened joints

To many of our patients, we administer a block or anesthetic before the procedure to alleviate discomfort and help encourage a relaxed state. We are mindful about providing support throughout the process, so our patients rarely report any pain. After the procedure is complete, acetaminophen can help with pain relief, but we do not recommend taking anti-inflammatories, as they tend to inhibit the effectiveness of Prolotherapy.
